Here are the ground rules I have established over time, I call them Food-To-Dos:
- Don't stay hungry for long
- Don't starve or you tend to make wrong food choices
- Don't eat if you are not hungry
- Don't over-eat
- Think twice before putting anything in your mouth that if you deserve to eat better quality food
- Never go out hungry for grocery shopping or you pick wrong things ;)
- Don't skip breakfast
- Try to have 5 meals a day. (including 2 snacks)
- Have a heavy breakfast, good lunch and light dinner
- Drink lots of water! (sometimes we forget that when we are busy and long pending thirst is misinterpreted as hunger)
- Limit salt intake
- Always check ingrediant list on what you buy (the ingrediants are listed in decreasing order of quantity)
- Don't eat any food with preservatives / added colors / added flavours / added sugar / added vegetable oil!!
- Try to eat as raw as possible, processed food are not the best
- Try to cook and cook from scratch
- Limit your carbs
- Have good complex carbs (whole grains, brown rice, oat, millets)
- Eat lots of good fat (virgin cold pressed oils, nuts, ghee)
- Avoid fried food
- Eat moderate dairy (dahi, chach)
- Eat less but good quality sweetners (brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, agave nector, date syrup... etc)
- Limit juices
- Eat lots of veggies
- Try to have high fibre food
- Eat moderate and good quality protiens (nuts, whole beans, white meat)
- Try to eat carbs, protiens and fruits towards the start of the day
- Have moderate physical activity
Do these make any sense to you?
